Privacy & cookies

What we collect, and what we don’t.

This site sets no cookies of its own and uses no tracking that identifies you. This page explains the little that is collected, why, and who else is involved.

Who we are

Biota Trace Systems Limited, Pegholme, Wharfebank Mills, Otley, Leeds, LS21 3JP, United Kingdom. We are the data controller for the information described here. For anything on this page, write to info at biotatrace dot com.

The short version

  • We set no cookies. There is no advertising, no profiling and no cross-site tracking.
  • Our analytics are cookieless and do not identify individuals.
  • The only personal data we receive is what you choose to send us through the enquiry form or by email.
  • The map on the contact page does set cookies — which is why it does not load until you press the button.

The enquiry form

If you use the form on the contact page, we receive your name, email address, organisation if you give one, and your message. We use it to answer you and, if a conversation follows, to carry it on. We do not add you to a mailing list, and we do not pass it to anyone for marketing.

The lawful basis is our legitimate interest in responding to people who contact us about our work, and in taking steps at your request before entering into a contract.

Form submissions are handled by Formspree, which delivers them to us by email. Formspree is based in the United States and processes the data on our instructions. We keep enquiry correspondence for as long as the enquiry is live and for up to two years afterwards, so we can pick up a conversation that resumes.

You can avoid the form entirely by emailing info at biotatrace dot com.

Analytics

We use Cloudflare Web Analytics to see which pages are read and roughly where visitors come from. It is cookieless: it stores nothing on your device, does not follow you between sites, and does not build a profile. We see aggregate counts — pages, referrers, countries, device types — not individuals.

This is why the site has no cookie banner. There is nothing to ask you to agree to.

The map

The contact page can show a Google map. Google sets cookies and receives your IP address when it loads, so we do not load it automatically — it appears only if you press Show the map. If you never press it, nothing goes to Google. The address is written out on the page either way, so you lose nothing by leaving it alone.

Video

The films on this site are hosted by us, not embedded from YouTube or Vimeo, so watching one involves no third party and no tracking.

Server logs

Like any website, our host records requests — IP address, time, page, browser — for security and to keep the site running. These are kept briefly and are not used to identify or profile visitors.

Your rights

You can ask us for a copy of the personal data we hold about you, ask us to correct or delete it, ask us to restrict how we use it, or object to our using it. Write to info at biotatrace dot com and we will respond within one month.

If you are unhappy with how we have handled your data you can complain to the Information Commissioner’s Office at ico.org.uk, though we would rather you told us first so we can put it right.

Changes

If we change how any of this works we will update this page and the date at the top of it.
